Thermal Management System

As an acoustics integrator, UGN takes a comprehensive approach to the acoustic behavior of the entire vehicle. UGN manufactures acoustic and thermal products, and integrates components into easy-to-install, multi-functional modules.

Composition
UGN thermal management heat shields can be multi-functional modules. Heat shields are used at all locations in the vehicle where parts must be protected from high-temperature components such as catalytic converters and other exhaust components.

Heat shields can be built as single-sheet or sandwich products and are suitable for application in most of the high temperature areas on conventional passenger cars and trucks. For most areas of application we recommend aluminum shields because of their high heat reflection properties. For extremely high temperatures (above 1,000º C), steel or alu-steel heat shields are used. Steel combinations also are recommended in special locations experiencing very high vibration forces, such as turbochargers or parts mounted directly on the engine block.

UGN also developed a unique variation of the multi-layer or sandwich-style heat shield, the noise-absorbing heat shield. A partially perforated carrier sheet, together with an acoustically optimized filling, provides reduction of exterior noise while at the same time lowering the temperature in the automobile.

Besides aluminum and steel, other materials such as plastics can be used for thermal applications, again depending on specific temperature requirements, while the insulation filling can be made out of glass, ceramics or aluminum foil.
